AOT Group rolls out STAR Treatment

8th of May, 2012

Tasmania played host to the AOT Groups’ annual STARS event from 25 to 29 April. The STARS event is one of the most hotly contested among agents each year, and this year’s event was no exception.  Sunlover’s top 60 travel agents attended the event along with 16 of the AOT Group’s top performing staff from all areas of the business.

Leanne Chard, General Manager of Sunlover Holidays, an AOT Group company, said that the new-look 2012 STARS event was a great success for all involved.

“STARS is all about thanking our top agents for their continued support of Sunlover Holidays. This year, we thought it would be a great opportunity to bring our top performing staff from across Sunlover Holidays and the AOT Group to meet the agents they service every day, whether they are front line sales staff or working behind the scenes in areas such as Finance, E-Commerce and IT.”

The five day Tasmanian adventure commenced in Launceston and groups undertook self drive itineraries to Cradle Mountain, Strahan and Freycinet before converging in Hobart for the gala awards night held at MONA.  The 2012 STARS experienced an array of activities including horse riding and quad biking at Lake St Clair National Park at Cradle Mountain, the famous Wine Glass Bay cruise in Freycinet, the amazing Gordon River cruise and a Wilderness Rail journey in Strahan and a full day tour to Bruny Island.

Tony Mayell, CEO Tourism Tasmania said that having the 2012 Sunlover Stars event in Tasmania is a huge opportunity to showcase what the state has to offer to top performing members of Australia’s travel industry.

“Sunlover Holidays, and The AOT Group, is an important partner for Tasmania.  Through its network of supporting travel agents and wholesale programs Sunlover Holidays provides multiple opportunities for Tasmanian products and experiences to reach a wide travelling public.  We’re thrilled they chose Tasmania as the destination for this hallmark event and we have worked closely with them to ensure that their top selling agents leave our island with memories to last a lifetime,” Mr Mayell said.

2012 STARS guests were entertained by Australian comic Vince Sorrenti and rubbed shoulders with Sunlover Holidays ambassador David Reyne who after travelling the globe for the Nine Network’s Getaway lists the STARS event in Tasmania as a true highlight. “I've attended plenty of events but never has one taken me down the east coast of Bruny Island aboard an open boat and into the teeth of a Southern Ocean gale followed by a slap up black tie event 30 metres below the earth at the amazing Mona. I usually find myself spending some time recovering from the excesses of the catering at such affairs. Not with Stars.  I'm still attempting to recover from the entire extraordinary experience,” Mr Reyne said.
