AOT Group to Operate Territory Discoveries Under Licence

19th of November, 2013

The AOT Group today advised that it will be taking over the operations of Territory Discoveries from 1st December 2013 under a 3 year Licence Agreement with Tourism NT.

Under the terms of the Agreement, AOT will continue to operate a call centre within Tourism NT’s premises in Alice Springs and will provide operational, product and marketing services to the business in the years ahead.

AOT Group CEO Andrew Burnes said that “We are really delighted to have successfully won the tender to operate the Territory Discoveries business on behalf of Tourism NT and the Northern Territory’s many wonderful and diverse tourism operators.”

“The Northern Territory is one of Australia’s most exciting destinations, a really must see and must do experience for all Australians and we look forward to working with Tourism NT and all of our mutual supplier partners in the Territory to continue to grow and develop the Territory Discoveries business in the years ahead,” said Mr. Burnes.

Northern Territory Minister for Tourism Matt Conlan said he was delighted that a deal had been reached with the AOT Group, which are described as one of Australia’s most innovative and successful travel businesses.

“Tourism NT has been operating its own wholesale division for many years now, however, with the diverse range of distribution options available to suppliers and the economies of scale in this type of business the Government believes that getting a commercial operator to run the business on our behalf under licence is the best possible outcome for tourism in the Northern Territory.

“The AOT Group has the technical systems and distribution know how to continue to drive and develop the business and we look forward to working with them in the promotion and sales of the many wonderful experiences the NT has to offer.”

Mr. Burnes said that the existing Territory Discoveries programs would continue to be produced as normal and the change from both an agent and consumer perspective would be seamless. As part of the deal, Territory Discoveries will discontinue its use of the Calypso Reservations System and move across to AOT’s i-Res system for all travel from April 2014.
